1962 Series 2a 109 Recovery Truck
This Land Rover was built in April 1962. It was first sent into the armed forces being used by the Paras, REME and the School of Artillary. It was discharged from service in October 1974. I am the third owner since 1974.
The vehicle was bought by me in April 2024. It had sat in a dry garage since 2016 and had covered less than 1000 miles since 2005.
The vehicle still has its original chassis.
My father and I restored the vehicle to be a replica of the recovery vehicle my father had built in the 1960's for the garage he worked for. During the stripdown the vehicle was found to be in very good condition and a credit to the previous owners with all bolts being able to be removed easily.
The only work required was to the brake and clutch systems along with a service.
The panel work was stripped back to bare aluminium and repaired where required. This revealed some of the army history including insignias on the doors.
The Harvey Frost crane was refurbished and the Turner Winch overhauled. Identical items were fitted to the original vehicle my father built. We know this as we had two photos of the original vehicle.
The following people were responsible for the build:
Robin and Dennis Caldwell (Strip, Body Work, Build and Assembly) 07927 347350
Ben Jacques Complete Car Care Theddingworth (Body Work and Paint work) 07710 024070
Graham Booth (Signwriting) 01704 500995
