The day Andy Murray won Wimbledon
Series 2a 1967 88 soft top diesel red

Win on eBay only pics seen and at Sussex ! I’m just outside Edinburgh by about 20miles

The night before I left in my Saab convertible and a A-frame and yow light bar on the day Andy Murray won Wimbledon. It was a cab with string holding doors together and to bolts the roof to chassis .

It was as in pics very much untouched I was told for 18 years and had sat awaiting .

I git her home and wasn’t till I recently got her back in use that her number plate had my postcode number letters had my first and then middle name it was meant to be with me .

I worked from chassis up fixing or retire or replace items . Within first week of getting her home I did what folk call will she start, check everything and her 2:25 lt diesel on first turn roared into life and settled to a blue haze smoke which I couldn’t of asked for a better start then .

Due to my own health and other vehicles she got time spent as and when I could ,a lot was learning first time stuff or what I learned from my s3 I have still.

Over the years she began to come together and near the end which took a leap when my friend let me set up in his garage with a big gazebo to finish by painting her but didn’t get to last final coat before she was returned to me .

So as her current engine needed seeing to I set about doing it but I then had to take the s3 off the road as found her chassis at a couple of points when I went to tow showed signs of underlying problems so her engine was taken out and fitted to her and everything within a month all the ticks where done to mot standard ir above and git all clear check.

So she has been in use past year or more up until about three months as the 2.5n/a diesel seemed to be producing black smoke during changes but not on run, I had this checked by having mate film me around a chosen route with lots of gear changes hills ect it was at that point I bought new set piston and rings for engine I had started with plans to fit back into the s3 well nope did engine swap and brought in the engine found pistons had fracture crack across middle of each one ? So I did have a second set pistons and rings ect her head I found was bad and hot spot parts had become part of engine abd wee bevel I found fracture on each so I still back a start as engine was stripped and scrapped and have two others to look at but that’s anther story .

So the Red Baron as she known as has proved her worth and continues to run sweet, I have plans to change her suspension plus both ball axels they in on shelf along with other parts awaiting warmer weather.
