On a beautiful Monday in October 2024, I found a lovely 1970 Land Rover Series 2a Safari 109 on an auction site—within my budget. Without much thought, I placed a spontaneous bid… That same evening at 6:00 PM, my smartphone went “ping,” and it was mine! Oops!
I had to pick it up that same week, but luckily, I could count on Rogi Classics (garage specializing in the restoration of classic cars, particularly Volkswagen), who came to collect it with a large trailer. After a few minor repairs, it was roadworthy again, and I used it over the winter at the city of Antwerp’s campsite, which I helped manage.
Now, toward the end of 2025, Rogi Classics is restoring it with a new chassis. We’re definitely not making it a brand-new Land Rover—it will stay as original as possible. In 2026, it will head to Luxembourg, where it will be used for operations at the Vianden City campsite, Vianden Castle Camp.
This Land Rover Series 2a Safari 109 comes from Croatia, where it was last registered in 2017. Unfortunately, the original engine is no longer in it—it has been replaced with one slightly heavier than the original. I still need to find out where this engine might have come from.
The odometer showed 9,229 kilometers at the time of purchase, but it’s likely that the odometer has rolled over at least once. Since there was a lot of work needed on the chassis, we decided to fit a new one.
From the moment I could drive, this car was my dream car, so I’ve renamed it “Dreamer.”
