Offered For Sale – 1963 Land Rover Series IIA – £8750 (no ‘offers’).
Hi Landy buffs, I am offering ‘Lucy’ my Series 2A for sale to another enthusiast/masochist wishing to take her through her retirement years.
Lucy is a Petrol SWB 4 x 4 Utility, first registered November 1963 (in Bexley). Reg plate ASL 493. I have owned her for 9 years and bought Lucy as a retirement project but health issues now prevent me carrying out any more work on her and so it’s time to pass on this 62 year old vintage lady to a new enthusiast.
Lucy is registered Historic Vehicle with DVLA and therefore Tax and MoT exempt in the UK, London ULEZ exempt and very inexpensive to insure.
Overseas Buyer? – Lucy deserves to travel more so I am happy to export her (at the purchaser’s cost) and will facilitate this if she sells to an overseas enthusiast.
Description – My description with photographs shows the work carried out, condition and presentation, but in summary I would describe Lucy as a mostly original, standard spec, fully serviced and ready to go. She is not ‘concours’ but smart enough to sit on your drive, not one for “rivet counters”. N.B. minor snagging jobs to fully finish Lucy – drivers door adjustments, rear view mirrors required, windscreen washer (pump and bottle fitted, requires pipes and jets fitting) and perhaps a heater! Please view the pictures as these form a large part of the description and cover most points of interest to ‘Landy’ buyers.
Chassis: stamped 24111515B – original, solid with some repairs by previous owners. I replaced the petrol tank and outriggers and the chassis has been cleaned and internal rustproofing applied. Two towing/lifting eyes are fitted on front bumper. All the chassis/suspension/transmission grease points have been greased and new grease nipples fitted where needed.
Bulkhead: – removed and renovated on a jig, so corrosion issues sorted and should be good for many years. Internal voids sprayed with rust protection. Nb – bulkhead ‘A’ pillars and door tops now have access holes incorporated for easy future rust proofing treatment in these areas that are commonly subject to corrosion (blanked off with grommets as seen in pics).
Engine: 15264313F – original 2.3 petrol engine with under 50k miles and runs well. Many gaskets replaced. New carburettor, lift pump, hoses fitted; oil pump removed cleaned and inspected when the sump was removed. Overall, the engine is smooth and good for many more miles.

Body: The wings and tub have the usual battle scar dents you find on ally panels, but look smart enough now newly painted.
All the doors dismantled, frames repaired and new door skins fitted prior to repainting. New weather-seals all round.
Seat box and radiator panel in good condition with no corrosion. The seats are new (standard type). Seat runners have been stripped and rebuilt and function as required. If you are still reading this you may be interested in purchasing Lucy! I can be contacted (by text only please) to arrange viewing (in Leigh on Sea, Essex) on 07375 709561
ATTENTION PLEASE!
Please do NOT contact me with questions that are covered in the description, or OFFERS – if listed she is available, and the description should determine if Lucy is worth your time to view.
Check the respected website www.Hagerty.com for their valuation of this model/year – I believe my asking price is realistic and very fair. I have included a screen print current Hagerty valuation.
Because of insurance issues I cannot allow customer ‘test drives’. I will happily drive potential purchasers to show that she functions as she should, or if required, allow a professional fully indemnified (RAC/AA) vehicle inspection (at the purchaser’s expense).
